TAMAYAKI: An Unexpected Yummy Trip

What I love about this food trip is that it's a spontaneous one. We didn't plan on going here anytime soon but then we passed by the branch in Wilson and decided to have a look.

Inside the store, you will see a majority of pink, purple and red shades of colors.

I love the egg shaped chairs. It matches the "takoyaki feel" because of its shape. They have more than enough space for you and your family and friends to stay and have an afternoon snack.

The entrance of their comfort room! It's so girly! I want that in my room!

And these cuties displayed on the walls were not left unnoticed too!

Takoyaki is a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of a special batter normally filled with minced or diced octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger, and green onion and grilled in a takoyaki pan. Once cooked, it will have a distinctive crispy exterior with juicy and tender fillings. According to my very reliable Japanese source, the word tako in takoyaki means octopus and yaki means grill. On the other hand, tama in tamayaki means round or ball-shaped.

What makes TAMAYAKI a special store is its variety of unique flavors from different countries placed in a takoyaki. TAMAYAKI is an improved version of the traditional Takoyaki. If you don't like the usual octopus filling, then you can order meat or even cheese filling.

They offer a variety of tea drinks and more than 10 different TAMAYAKI flavors. Here is their menu (or better yet go to munchpunch):

We ordered the Combo Cup which costs Php 160.00 each. This comes with 4pcs of any TAMAYAKI flavor and your choice of their green or black tea flavors.

The packaging is really cute and convenient. The tamayaki container is placed on top of the cup and there's a small opening where you can place your straw. This way you can eat your tamayaki and drink tea on-the-go. It's also cheaper by almost Php 50 than when you buy the drink and tamayaki separately. Sulit!

We ordered 3 different meat flavored tamayaki -- Pork Adobo, Oriental Beef and Korean Pork BBQ, because we are such carnivores that day:

These are surprisingly good! The Korean BBQ has this touch of spiciness that Koreans love. The Pork Adobo is also good if you want something more salty than spicy. The Oriental Beef is also good and you can really taste the flavor of the beef. They all look pretty much the same but they taste different. They also have enough sauce and toppings which make these the ultimate merienda snack! Though you really have to wait a bit longer if your tamayaki is meat flavored because meat takes longer to cook. We waited around 10-15 minutes.

I wasn't expecting to love the tea that much because I always prefer milk tea, but their green teas and black teas are so refreshing. We ordered Honey Aloe Green Tea, Grapefruit Aloe Green Tea and Tangerine Chrysanthemum Honey Black Tea.

I like the Grapefruit Aloe Green Tea best because the taste of the green tea was not that strong and the flavor of the grapefruit was blended in well. Compared to the same drink that Serenitea has, I like TAMAYAKI's version of this drink better.

I also loved the Tangerine Chrysanthemum Honey Black Tea. I love orange-like flavors because they are so refreshing.

The Honey Aloe Green Tea too tasted good it has a touch of sweetness and the green tea doesn't taste that strong as well.

I don't usually order teas like these because of the milk tea craze but I don't mind if the teas were this good! 50% sugar is just the right level of sweetness for them. We will definitely visit next time to try other flavors of tamayaki and tea. This really is yummy yummy says my happy tummy!

Credits for the photos to my cousin who is also my very reliable source for Japanese terms. Arigato!
